It's been home to the Roman Empire and the earliest occupation is cited as being 14,000 years ago. Key tourists sites to see also include the Colosseum, the Pantheon and the Vatican.
The city is well serviced by metro, trams and buses although getting around on foot is best once you are in the city centre.
The city has so much to see in terms of culture, museums and shops you will not be short on things to do.
